KARPOV NOT KASPAROV
Local heroes in their native Bucharest but also quite active musical tourists, Karpov not Kasparov have been carrying their instruments throughout Europe during the past 3 years, playing their very energetic and danceable live set in alternative venues from Berlin, Milano, Basel, Florence, Hamburg, Vienna, Torino, Brussels, Budapest, Prague, Warsaw, Belgrade etc. But there's more to it than just the music. At their gigs, you might also see ballet dancers, chess games played by the audience, old Russian silent films or theatrical performances. Many of these shows were hosted in rather unconventional locations like a retirement home, a train station, a restaurant toilet or a shoe store.
Their debut LP called "Soundtrack for a Game of Chess" has been nominated 'album of the month' by Vice magazine, and it has been aired on New York radios.
The band delivers a very optimistic electro-clash sound, with early 80's influence and some jazzy-oriental flavours.
